The Hornets (35-6) advanced into the second round with a 4-2 victory over sixth-seeded Roanoke Friday afternoon in the first game of the tournament.
Today's game is an elimination contest for the 2016 champion Yellow Jackets.
Gerard DePhilips (6-1) was the starting pitcher in that March 22 contest. DePhillips, who earned third team All-ODAC honors on Friday, allowed one run on eight hits and one walk while striking out six in that game.
Matt Burns was the winning pitcher of that game in relief. He had three strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work.
Matthew Nickles (3-3) has been the other weekend starter for the 'Jackets this season with Michael Zubovich (3-1) and Cody Thompson (5-3) as additional options.
Loew was 2-for-3 with two RBI in the tournament opener yesterday.
For Macon, ODAC Player of the Year Cole Migliorini is hitting .390 with nine home runs and 45 RBI.
His home run total is second to Loew in the ODAC.
Loew's, who has 10 home runs and 52 RBI, leads the league in both categories. Migliorini is tied for third in the league (with teammate Rick Spiers) in RBI.
A Shenandoah win would put the Hornets into a Sunday contest versus the winner of the No. 2 Washington and Lee versus No. 4 Virginia Wesleyan game for a trip to the championship game. The winner of that latter contest will have two opportunities to win the 2017 title.
