WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University field hockey team completed a perfect opening week with a 2-0 non-league victory over Washington & Jefferson Sunday afternoon.
The goal was Lamarca's second of the season.
With just less than 17 minutes to play, Taylor Hayes gave SU (2-0) some breathing room by converting a penalty stroke goal.
Hayes lofted her shot to the right of Presidents (0-2) keeper Karlie Baran and in for the insurance tally.
Shenandoah outshot W&J 9-7 and had a 7-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Jenna Rampale turned away five shots to record her third career shutout.
"We expected Washington & Jefferson to come out hard and for it to be a battle all game long and it was," Hornets head coach Ashley Smeltzer-Kraft said. "I thought the team made great adjustments at halftime and we converted on the chances we were given."
SU travels to McDaniel on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. non-league contest.
