VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team opened up 2018 Beach Blast play Friday with a pair of dominating wins.
Shenandoah (7-5) earned a 14-0, 5-inning win over Hunter (New York) in the opener before taking out the College of New Rochelle (New York) 8-2 in the nightcap.
Wilk had the first of what proved to be four SU home runs in the contest with Morgan Henly and Maryann Hollen also going deep.
Elizabeth Everette (2-0) earned the win in the circle with four innings of work.
In game two, Shenandoah rebounded from a two-run New Rochelle (0-2) second with four runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to complete the sweep.
Sophomore Katherine Seidl (4-2) tossed a complete game three-hitter while striking out eight.
SU had six hits in the game, with Sammy Amateau getting two along with a pair of runs batted in.
Morgan Henley drove in three runs including the final two of the game on a single to center in the sixth.
Wilk had her second home run of the day with a solo shot to lead off the Shenandoah sixth.
The Hornets also benefitted from seven Blue Angels errors.
SU continues play in the tournament with games Saturday versus Penn College and Keuka (New York).
