ITA Academic Honors Announced

A total of seven Shenandoah University men's and women's tennis student-athletes were honored by the ITA for academic achievement.

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Shenandoah University women's tennis team and a total of seven men's and women's tennis players were recognized for academic achievement in selections announced recently by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The women's tennis team was honored as an ITA All-Academic squad with squad members Denisa Banasova, Emma Crue, Morgan Fuqua, Melodie Madison and Alyssa White picking up Scholar-Athlete honors.

On the men's side, Matt Hwang and Brett Dubin also earned ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades.

To earn the team award, a squad must have a 3.20 cumulative GPA for the 2016-17 school year. The SU women had a 3.69 team GPA in the fall and an amazing 3.81 in the spring semester with all seven women on the squad posting at least a 3.45 GPA in that time.

To be selected as an ITA Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must earn a varsity letter and carry at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Fuqua leads the quintet of women with a perfect 4.0 GPA with Banasova at 3.90, Crue at 3.79, White at 3.70 and Madison at 3.66.

For the men, Dubin had a 3.72 GPA and Hwang a 3.53.

The seven were part of a group of 1,364 student-athletes across Division III to be honored with the SU women one of 237 squads to earn the team award.
