About Kernstown

Kernstown Battlefield is located five minutes from Shenandoah University’s campus on Valley Ave (RT 11). Kernstown Battlefield is a preserved Civil War battlefield and the XC courses are maintained year-round for excellent footing conditions. The entire course is mowed grass, with two asphalt crossings (which are covered in rubber matting). The course features a gradual uphill climb in the first 400 meters and rolling hills through the back of the course, and ends with a fast, 300m downhill finish. The course is well marked/flagged throughout, as well as signs and marks for every kilometer and mile split. Kernstown Battlefield was the host venue for the 2015 NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships, as well as the 2018 ODAC Championships.
