CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Shenandoah University concluded its weekend
softball action with a split of a non-league doubleheader against
Guilford College.
The Hornets (3-3) dropped game one, 5-3, before coming back to
defeat Guilford (8-3-1) 4-2 in the nightcap of a doubleheader
played at Great Bridge H.S.
Freshman Amanda Litwin
(2-1) concluded her solid weekend by tossing another complete game
in the nightcap.
Litwin, who shut out Randolph-Macon 1-0 on Saturday, allowed two
runs on nine hits and one walk in Sunday's win. She also had one
strikeout.
Her offense helped her with three runs in the second and another
in the fifth - junior Catherine
Pruiett and sophomore Shatora Lane each had
two of the team's eight hits while freshman Denise Mitchell
drove in two runs with a second inning double.
GC jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opener before Shenandoah was
able to score two of its own in the fifth.
Lane was the story offensively in this game as well - she had
four hits in four at-bats.
Brooke
Over (1-2) took the opening game loss. She allowed five
runs (four earned) on 10 hits and two walks while striking out
three.
SU is back in action in its home opener on Tuesday against
defending national champion Messiah College. First pitch is
