Softball Splits at Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. – Shenandoah and Ferrum traded a pair of shutouts Tuesday afternoon in USA South Conference softball action.

Shenandoah (14-10, 4-4 USA South) was a 3-0 winner in the opener before Ferrum (16-9, 6-4) came back to win 1-0 in the nightcap.

The Hornets had runners on first and second in the top of the seventh of game two, but FC escaped by inducing Jolisa Jones to ground out to second for the final out of the contest.

SU was held to five hits in that second contest, including two from sophomore Jordan Wolford.

Sophomore Amanda Litwin (0-2) allowed the one run on four hits and one walk in 1.0 innings of work. Wolford relieved Litwin three batters into the second.

In the opener, the Hornets got all of the offense they would need on an Ashley Plaugher RBI single in the first before adding single runs in the second and third.

Plaugher, who scored on the final run in the third when she doubled to lead off the frame and eventually came home on a passed ball, plated Jones with that first run.

Jones led off the contest with a double.

In the second, Jones made it 2-0 by bringing home Lauren McCabe with another RBI single.

Junior Brooke Over (9-5) struck out 10 in the complete game victory and Jones paced the offense with three hits in four at-bats.

Shenandoah hosts Meredith on Saturday at noon in a USA South Conference doubleheader.
