NORFOLK, Va. - Shenandoah University completed its participation in the 2011 Virginia Wesleyan Beach Blast with 2-1 and 8-4 losses Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets (5-3) dropped the opening game to national power Salisbury before future ODAC opponent Roanoke doubled up SU in the nightcap.
Shenandoah finishes the two-day tourney with one win in four games. SU split on Friday, losing 5-4 to Stevenson and defeating Frostburg State 5-1.
In the Salisbury game, the Hornets scored the first run in the second inning when Jolisa Jones reached on infield error, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Jordan Wolford's single to left.
The Sea Gulls tied the game in the bottom of the frame and got the game-winning run in the fifth.
Junior Brooke Over (3-1) took the loss after allowing two runs on six hits and three walks in 6.0 She struck out three.
Wolford, Jones and Ashley Plaugher had Shenandoah's three hits.
Roanoke led throughout the nightcap, scoring two runs in the first, one in the second and three in the fifth to secure the victory.
Jones had a solo HR in the first and was 3 for 4 with three runs scored to lead SU offensively against the Maroons.
Plaugher had three hits and freshman Morgan Coble two against RC.
Shenandoah returns to the diamond on Tuesday with a non-league doubleheader at 2009 NCAA Champion Messiah College.
