Softball Splits with Bridgewater

WINCHESTER, Va. - Junior Brooke Over continued her strong pitching this spring by helping Shenandoah to a non-league softball split with Bridgewater College Friday evening.

Over (21-7) scattered five hits and struck out 13 to pitch SU (30-15) to the non-league win over Bridgewater (29-11) in the opener.

Over also did not walk a batter in the victory and retired the Eagles in order in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings.

Shenandoah scored the only run of the contest in the third when senior Jolisa Jones led off with a double to left center and Renoula Jones beat out an bunt single that allowed Jolisa Jones to come all the way around from second with the winning run.

The Hornets had seven hits in the contest, including two each from Jolisa Jones and Heather Sink.

The Eagles rallied for a 3-2 win in the nightcap; SU scored two runs in the second only to see BC tie it with two runs in the third before getting the go-ahead run in the fifth.

Shenandoah had the tying run on third base in both the fifth and seventh, but could not push it across.

With runners on second and third and two outs in the seventh, freshman Morgan Coble grounded out to the catcher unassisted to end the game.

Pitcher Jordan Wolford (8-3) had two hits in game two. She took the loss after allowing three runs on six hits and four walks in 4 1/3 innings.

Aven Thomas (11-1) had the win for BC.

Over's victory in the opener also gives the Hornets a school-record-tying 30 wins on the year. Shenandoah has won 30 games in three of the past four seasons.

SU is now off until playing in the NCAA Regionals in two weeks.

Notes: It was senior night and the four seniors: Jolisa Jones, Renoula Jones, Ashley Plaugher and Catherine Pruiett, were honored in between games. The four women have been a part of a program that has won 111 games, a USA South Conference regular season title and a USA South Tournament title. Collectively, the women have earned 10 USA South All-League accolades.
