Softball Splits at Peace

RALEIGH, N.C. - Shenandoah University earned its 20th softball victory of the season Friday afternoon in splitting a USA South Conference doubleheader at Peace College.

Shenandoah (20-11, 10-5 USA South) was an 11-0 winner in game one before Peace (13-25, 5-11) came back to win the nightcap 2-1.

SU had a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh of game two, thanks to an unearned run in the fourth, only to see the Pacers convert a pair of walks into the winning runs.

PC plated both runs on a single off of Hornets reliever Jordan Wolford (6-2). Wolford gave up the two runs on one hit and two walks in 1 1/3 innings.

Game one was never close as Shenandoah scored seven runs in the second on four hits and four Peace errors. Coach Marlena Kotynski's club added two more runs in the third and fifth innings to end matters early.

Jolisa Jones and Heather Sink both had two hits in the win with Sink driving in three. She had an RBI single in the third and plated the final two runs in the fifth with a single to left-center.

Brooke Over (13-5) struck out seven, walked one and did not give up a hit in pitching the first four innings. Peace had a two-out single to center off of sophomore Amanda Litwin to prevent itself from being no-hit.

Eight of the Hornets 11 runs in game one were unearned as PC committed six errors.

Shenandoah travels to Methodist on Saturday for another USA South Conference doubleheader.
