SALISBURY, Md. – NCAA Softball Regional host Salisbury used a four-run third inning to defeat Shenandoah 4-0 in a second round contest Saturday morning.
No. 10 Salisbury (35-4) advances to the winner's bracket final against Christopher Newport with the win over Shenandoah (31-16).
SU will seek to work its way through the elimination bracket starting with a 1:00 contest against Kean (N.J.).
The Shenandoah/Salisbury contest originally started on Friday evening at 6:45 p.m. and was suspended due to darkness following the completion of the fourth inning. The game start was delayed by 2 hours and 45 minutes due to a 13-inning game between Christopher Newport and Emory (Ga.).
The Sea Gulls scored the four runs in the third off of Hornets pitchers Brooke Over (22-8) and Amanda Litwin on five hits and one batter reaching via fielder's choice.
Over allowed the four runs on three hits in 2 1/3 before Litwin came on for the final 4 2/3. Each woman had one strikeout.
Shenandoah had five hits in the contest, including two from senior centerfielder Renoula Jones.
