Softball Shuts Out Peace

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University recorded its third straight softball doubleheader sweep with 2-0 and 6-0 USA South Conference wins over Peace Saturday afternoon.

Senior Brooke Over (5-2) tossed a two-hitter in game one for the Hornets (13-3, 4-0 USA South) before Amanda Litwin (3-1) and Jordan Wolford combined for a three-hitter in the nightcap.

Even though Over was totally in control of the opener, Peace (7-13, 0-4) had a chance as it loaded the bases in the top of the seventh.

Over then ended the contest with a strikeout looking. The punch-out was her 10th of the contest.

SU got all of the offense that Over would need in the bottom of the first when catcher Denise Mitchell led off with a triple to left and scored when Brittany Guepe beat out an infield hit.

The Hornets scored an unearned run in the second to provide the final margin.

A four-run first proved to be enough in the nightcap, with Shatora Lane driving in two with a double to left and Lizzy Martin bringing home Lane with a single to center.

Shenandoah scored another in the second and one in the sixth to finish off the win.

Guepe and Martin were 3 for 3, Morgan Coble 2 for 3 and Wolford 2 for 4 in game two.

Mitchell, Guepe, Wolford and Lauren McCabe had the victors hits in the opener.

SU hosts Methodist on Sunday at noon in a USA South Conference doubleheader.
