WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University ran its softball winning streak to seven games Thursday afternoon with a non-league doubleheader sweep over Castleton (Vt.) State.
The Hornets (12-6) were 13-2 winners in the opener before taking the nightcap 8-0 over the Spartans (0-4).
Both games were halted after five innings due to the NCAA mercy rule.
In game one, junior Stephanie Cameron (8-1) struck out eight in just three innings of work and the SU offense banged out 15 hits to end the contest early.
Madison Bradley had a game-high three hits in three at-bats while Morgan Coble was 2 for 4 with four RBIs on a home run and a double.
Erica Kondzielawa rounded out the multiple-hit players with a 2 for 3 day that included an RBI and a run scored.
All nine starters got at least one hit.
Seven of nine starters got at least one hit in the game two shutout victory.
Megan Tripp (3-1) scattered three hits and struck out five in pitching the first 4.0 innings. Brianne Morlock, who finished up for Cameron in game one, worked a perfect fifth to complete the sweep.
Coble and Bradley both had two hits in the nightcap with Coble hitting her second dinger of the day in the third.
Shenandoah is scheduled to host Randolph on Saturday in an ODAC doubleheader, but these contests might be moved to Friday afternoon based on the weather forecast. Please check www.suhornets.com for updated schedule information.
