WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University continued its softball winning ways with an ODAC doubleheader sweep of Randolph College Friday afternoon.
Shenandoah (14-6, 4-0 ODAC) downed the WildCats (15-5, 0-2) 4-3 in game one and 9-0 in the nightcap.
Game two was halted after five innings due to the NCAA mercy rule.
The two wins run the Hornets winning streak to nine games and puts head coach Marlena Kotynski just two victories from 200 for her career.
Kotynski will have the opportunity to get that 200th victory on Sunday when SU takes on the Lynchburg Hornets in an ODAC doubleheader beginning at 1:30.
Junior Stephanie Cameron (9-1) threw a five-hitter in game one, but needed a strikeout looking in the top of the seventh as Randolph had rallied for three unearned runs and had the tying run at second as the game ended.
Cameron struck out eight and walked two in the complete game victory.
Seniors Ashley Crawford and Denise Mitchell had three and two hits, respectively, to lead the Shenandoah game one offense.
Crawford drove in the eventual game winning run with a single up the middle in the bottom of the sixth.
A six-run second proved all the Hornets needed to end matters early in the nightcap. SU sent 11 women to the plate in the frame with Erica Kondzielawa, Heather Sink, Lauren McCabe and Mitchell all driving in runs.
Kondzielawa, the Hornets leading hitter, saw her nine-game hitting streak end with a 0 for 2 showing in game two.
Freshman Megan Tripp (5-1) allowed just three hits, struck out two and did not walk a batter in earning the win.
Madison Bradley and Morgan Coble had two hits each in the game two victory with Crawford driving in a pair.
