Softball Shuts Out 'Cats

SALEM, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team won its first-ever ODAC Tournament contest Friday afternoon with an 8-0 win over Randolph.

The Hornets (25-17) eliminate the WildCats (26-16) with the victory.

The triumph also advances SU to an 11 a.m. Saturday morning contest against the loser of the No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan vs No. 4 Randolph-Macon game. That tilt will be played at 6 p.m. Friday evening.

Shenandoah ended the game in the bottom of the sixth due to the NCAA mercy rule – Heather Sink drove in senior Denise Mitchell from third base with a two-out single up the middle for the final run of the game.

Brittany Guepe and Mitchell had started off the frame with bunt singles before Morgan Coble reached on a fielder's choice that cut down Guepe at third base and Kimberly Brady flied to center.

SU scored one run in the first, four in the third and two in the fourth to set up Sink to end the game early.

In the third, Coble, Sink, Erica Kondzielawa and Lauren McCabe all had RBI singles.

Brady had a two-run dinger in the fourth to put the Hornets just one run away from ending the game early.

The offense was more than enough for junior Stephanie Cameron (16-5), who scattered four hits in the complete game victory. Cameron also struck out three.

Guepe had four of the Hornets 14 hits with Mitchell, Sink and McCabe posting two each.

Coble, Brady and Sink drove in two runs each.
