SALEM, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team continued its run in the 2013 ODAC Softball Tournament Saturday morning with a 4-1 elimination round victory over No. 22 Randolph-Macon.
Shenandoah (26-17) advances to a 5 p.m. game against Bridgewater with the win over the Yellow Jackets (34-9).
The Hornets scored three runs in the first and another in the fifth to provide junior Stephanie Cameron (17-5) all of the offense she would need to post her second win of the tournament.
Cameron allowed the one run (in the seventh) on six hits and five walks while striking out six.
In the seventh, Macon brought the tying run to the plate with two outs before Cameron got Jenna Best to fly out to right to end the contest.
Rightfielder Erica Kondzielawa made a great catch on the ball after colliding with second baseman Madison Bradley as they both converged on the sinking liner.
Junior Heather Sink had what proved to the game-winning RBI with her first inning single down the rightfield line that plated Brittany Guepe and Denise Mitchell.
Guepe and Mitchell had reached on a bunt single and a single to right center, respectively.
Lauren McCabe then brought Sink home with a double into the left center gap.
In the fifth, Kondzielawa had an RBI single up the middle to score Sink with the Hornets final run of the contest. Sink had led off the frame with a single to center.
McCabe finished the day 3 for 3 with Guepe, Sink and Kondzielawa getting two hits each.
Heather Lewis (20-4) took the loss for the 'Jackets. She allowed the four runs on 11 hits and two walks.
