SALEM, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team is now three victories from an ODAC Championship after taking out Bridgewater College with a 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
The win vaults SU (27-17) into a loser's bracket championship game tonight at 7:00 against Lynchburg. The winner of that game will face Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday for the ODAC Championship and automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Shenandoah, playing as the away team against BC (24-18), scored one run in the first and two in the fourth to take a lead it would not relinquish against the Eagles.
Junior Stephanie Cameron was outstanding, striking out the side in each of the first three innings before turning it over to freshman Megan Tripp (9-6) to start the fourth.
Tripp worked the next three innings, allowing one run on four hits, before Jordan Wolford posted her second save in a week by getting the final three outs.
Wolford gave up two, two-out singles, but got a flyout to left to end it.
Junior Emily Wilson drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly to left in the fourth. Wilson's fly plated Heather Sink, who had led off the frame by drawing a walk.
Lauren McCabe, who followed Sink with a single to center, scored on a Madison Bradley single following the Wilson sacrifice fly.
The first SU run came via a double steal with Brittany Guepe swiping home.
Guepe and McCabe had three hits each with Denise Mitchell adding two.
Kasey Anderson had two hits for the Eagles.
