Quakers Sweep Softball

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Guilford College banged out a total of 28 hits in sweeping an ODAC softball doubleheader from Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

Guilford (15-7, 3-1 ODAC) was an 8-3 winner in game one before taking game two 16-3 in five innings over SU (5-13, 3-5).

Shenandoah answered the Quakers four-run third in game one with three runs of its own in the bottom of the frame before GC scored four runs in the sixth to coast home to the win.

Madison Bradley had two of the Hornets six hits in the game.

Sophomore Lindsay Corbin (0-5) struck out five in the complete game effort. She allowed the eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits and four walks.

Corbin also went 1 for 3 at the plate.

GC got to game two starter Lisa Mitro (3-3) for three runs on three hits in the first inning of game two before adding two in the second, five in the third and six more in the fifth to end matters early.

Mitro went the distance as just four of the 16 runs were earned. The Quakers had 16 hits and Mitro struck out one against three walks.

Bradley, Kimberly Brady and Cassie Green had the Hornets hits with Green driving in a pair o a double to center in the second.

The Hornets continue ODAC play Sunday at defending champion Virginia Wesleyan.
