Softball Wraps Up Season

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University softball team completed its 2016 season Sunday by dropping an ODAC doubleheader to Randolph College.

Randolph (21-17, 8-10 ODAC) was a 12-1 winner in the opener before rallying past Shenandoah (8-30, 2-16) for an 8-7 victory in the nightcap.

In that game two, SU clawed back from a 4-0 deficit to take a 7-6 lead heading into the seventh. The Hornets took the lead as pinch runner Breanne Smith scampered home from third on two-out wild pitch.

Karli Rorabaugh had led off the Shenandoah sixth with a single down the left field line before SU skipper ran Smith for her at first base.

One inning earlier, the Hornets tied the game at 6-6 on senior Kimberly Brady's two-out single up the middle that brought Megan Wilk home from third.

Wilk reached with one out via hit by pitch moved into scoring position on Kristen Weadon's single through the left side.

The 'Cats won it in the seventh on a one-out rally off of SU starter Carrie Robinson (4-14). Jessica Nowak reached on a single to left center before Hunter Glave took Robinson over the fence in the left field power alley for what proved to be the game-winning run.

Randolph pitcher Lindsey Chaney, who had started the game and pitched the first four innings before being replaced by Hannah Winfree, returned to set the Hornets down in order in the bottom of the seventh to close out the sweep.

Winfree (4-6) gave up the lead by allowing two runs on three hits in 2.0 innings, but got the win thanks to Glave's dinger.

Brady paced the Shenandoah offense with three hits and four RBI in five at-bats. Weadon had two hits.

In the opener, Randolph scored two runs in the first and seven in the second to take a commanding, 9-1, lead.

Rorabaugh had two of the Hornets three hits with Haley Koeninger adding the other.

Lindsay Corbin (3-15) and reliever Kayla O'Connell were again hampered by a defense that committed three errors which led to nine of the 'Cats 12 runs being unearned. Corbin pitched first two innings and O'Connell the final three.

Both women had two strikeouts with Corbin allowing seven hits and O'Connell five.

Six of the eight runs that Robinson surrendered in game two were unearned. She had three strikeouts and allowed nine hits in the complete game performance.

Gracyn Allen-Ingle (4-6) was the game one winner for Randolph.
