WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Shenandoah University softball team completed weekend play Sunday by dropping a pair of close non-league games to Frostburg State and Salem.
Shenandoah (1-3) fell, 10-8, in the opener to Frostburg before Salem was a 12-11 winner in the nightcap.
The one-run win for Salem (5-2) was the second for the Spirits over SU in as many days.
Frostburg (2-1) scored six runs in the top of the first in the opener to take a lead it would not relinquish. SU answered with three in the bottom of the third along with one in the fourth and two in the sixth, but could not bring the game back to even.
The Hornets had 13 hits versus the Bobcats with Lindsay Corbin leading the way with a 3 for 4 contest that included three RBI and a run scored.
Breanna Smith, Ashlyn Drake, Karli Rorabaugh and Kristen Weadon all had two hits with Rorabaugh driving in a pair.
Corbin drove in her runs on a two-run HR in the third and a single in the sixth. Rorabaugh had RBI singles in the third and fourth.
Katherine Seidl (0-2) took the game one loss, allowing 10 runs (eight earned) on 13 hits and two walks versus three strikeouts. She went the distance.
Against Salem, the Hornets banged out 15 hits, including another home run for Corbin, but gave up 21 in the 12-11 loss.
Seidl, the fourth pitcher of the day for the Hornets, was on the losing end of the decision after giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits in one inning of work.
Smith, Drake, Rorabaugh, Corbin, Haley Koeninger and Carrie Robinson all had two hits in the loss with Corbin driving in four runs.
Shenandoah is now off until Tuesday, February 28 when coach Marlena Kotynski's club welcomes Gettysburg to town for a 3:30 non-league doubleheader.
