LYNCHBURG, Va. – Host Randolph College clinched a spot in the ODAC Softball Tournament by sweeping a doubleheader from Shenandoah University Friday afternoon.
Randolph (24-16, 9-11 ODAC) was a 5-3 winner in the opener before completing the sweep with a 3-1 win in the nightcap.
The losses eliminate Shenandoah (11-29, 5-15 ODAC) from ODAC Tournament consideration and clinch a spot for the 'Cats.
In game one, Randolph scored three runs in the second along with single runs in the third and fourth to offset a three-run fourth for the Hornets.
SU outhit the WildCats 11-6, but left 11 runners on in the two-run loss. In the seventh, Shenandoah loaded the bases with two outs only to see RC escape with a foul out to short.
Lindsay Corbin was 3-for-4 with two RBI with Carrie Robinson and Casey Webb each getting two hits.
Corbin keyed a three-run fourth with a two-run single that plated Robinson and Alexis Morin.
Katherine Seidl (5-16) took the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits in 6.0 innings. She struck out one.
Lindsey Chaney (9-8) was the winner for Randolph.
The 'Cats scored one run in the first and two in the fifth off of Hornets starter Elizabeth Everette (3-8) to complete the sweep.
Shenandoah scored its lone run in the third on a Corbin single to left. She plated Breanne Smith, who reached on a bunt single.
Everette allowed three runs on six hits and one walk in 5.0 innings.
Kayla O'Connell struck out one in pitching a scoreless sixth.
SU will announce its 2018 schedule this summer.
