Lynchburg Sweeps Softball

WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Lynchburg College swept an ODAC doubleheader from Shenandoah Wednesday evening with 9-1 and 3-1 victories.

In the nightcap Shenandoah (9-19, 4-10 ODAC) had the tying run on base with no outs, but saw Lynchburg (24-8, 9-3) escape with two groundouts (the latter a sacrifice bunt) and a pop to first.

Haley Koeninger drove in the hosts lone run of the contest on a single to right in the first. She played Makela Dawkins, who had reached on a one-out single to right.

LC scored two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to provide the final margin of victory.

Koeninger had two of Shenandoah's seven hits in the game.

In game one, Lynchburg scored three runs in the second and six more in the seventh to earn the 9-1 win.

SU was held to three hits in the contest, including a Lindsay Corbin RBI triple in the second. Breanne Smith and Kristen Weadon had singles in the sixth and fifth, respectively.

Katherine Seidl (3-12) pitched both ends of the doubleheader, allowing seven runs (three earned) on just four hits and one walk in 6.0 innings of game one. In game two, she allowed the three runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out two.

Shenandoah hosts Emory and Henry Saturday at 1:00 in an ODAC doubleheader.
