WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Shenandoah University completed its play at the Salem Invitational Sunday by winning one of three games.
Shenandoah (2-2) ended its day with a 3-2 win over host Salem after dropping 7-0 and 12-7 contests to Frostburg and Brandeis, respectively.
Freshman Allie Schey had the big blow in the win over the Spirits (3-3) with a two-run home run in the fifth that knotted the score at 2-2.
In the seventh, she drove home Megan Wilk with the game-winning run. Wilk had led off the frame with a double.
Katherine Seidl (1-1) picked up the win by tossing a complete game four-hitter. She allowed two unearned runs on the four hits and one walk.
In the opener versus Frostburg, SU was held to three hits in the 7-0 loss.
Sierra Beaty had a leadoff single in the second while Kayla O'Connell and Schey strung together back-to-back singles in the third.
Seidl (0-1) allowed four runs on seven hits and one walk in five innings of work.
Shenandoah dropped the middle game of the day to Brandeis, 12-7.
Beaty was 3-for-4 with a home run in that contest and Autumn Beasley had two hits in three at-bats.
Morgan Henley (0-1) took the loss. She gave up eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings.
The Hornets are now off until hosting Misericordia on Saturday in a noon non-league doubleheader.
