- GREENSBORO, N.C. – Host Guilford College helped its ODAC Tournament hopes out considerably with a doubleheader sweep over Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon.
The Quakers (15-15, 4-9 ODAC) were 7-1 winners in the opener before completing the sweep with a 10-0, five-inning victory in the nightcap.
Shenandoah (11-19, 2-10) was held to a total of seven hits in the two contests.
Freshman Maryann Hollen had the Hornets RBI thanks to a double down the left field line in the third inning of game one. Hollen drove in classmate Morgan Henley, who had reached on a one-out single to short.
Katherine Seidl (6-9) took the game one loss. She allowed six runs on 10 hits and three hits in 4.0 innings. Seidl also struck out two.
Autumn Beasley and Schey, the top two hitters in the SU lineup, broke up the Guilford game two no-hit bid with back-to-back singles in the fifth inning.
GC scored one run in the first, another in the second, six in the third and two in the fourth to provide enough offense to end the game early.
Kayla O'Connell (0-1) pitched the initial 2 2/3 innings and gave up six runs on seven hits and four walks.
The Hornets host No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday at 10 a.m.
