BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team recorded its fourth straight split Tuesday afternoon in a double-dip at Bridgewater College.
Shenandoah (12-11, 3-3 ODAC) was a 10-9 winner in eight innings in the opener before Bridgewater (14-8, 2-4) salvaged the split with a 4-3 victory in the nightcap.
GAME ONE
Shenandoah had a 3-0 lead after one, but needed one run in the sixth and five in the seventh to erase a 6-3 deficit and have enough cushion to withstand BC scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh.
In the eighth, placed runner Carly Shaw scored the game-winning run when the Eagles could not handle Maryann Hollen's two-out groundball to first.
Megan Scalley (4-2) was the winner after giving up nine runs (six earned) on 12 hits and two walks. She walked two and struck out three.
In the ninth, she got the placed runner at third on a fielder's choice followed by a groundout to short and a pop out to short.
Hollen and BayLee Jenkins both had two hits with Carrie Robinson driving in three runs and Taylor Glover two.
Robinson had an RBI single in the first and drove in two runs in that five-run seventh on a groundball to short.
Glover followed that groundball with a two-run double.
GAME TWO
Bridgewater took the early lead with two runs in the first and after SU put up a three-spot in the fourth, answered with one in the bottom of that frame to tie the game at 3-3.
The contest stayed that way until the Eagles loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and scored the winning run on a bloop single to right.
Robinson and Meghan Stout each had two hits in the loss.
Robinson (6-5) took the loss in the circle, allowing four runs (three earned) on 13 hits and three walks in 6 2/3 innings.
Brooke Louden (3-2) was the winner for BC. She allowed the three runs on nine hits.
