Marlins Spear Softball

SALEM, Va. – No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan held eighth-seeded Shenandoah University to just two hits in a 7-0 victory Friday evening in the opening game of the 2019 ODAC Softball Tournament.

Virginia Wesleyan (35-3 and No. 1 in the nation) scored one run in the second along with two runs each in the fourth through sixth innings to down Shenandoah (18-22) for the third time in the past week.

IN BRIEF

Marlins pitcher Hannah Hull (23-1) held SU to the two hits, a third inning single by Carrie Robinson and a Madison Clark infield single in the fourth, to get the win.

In five innings of work, Hull struck out 12, walked two and retired the Hornets in order in the first, second and fifth.

Carla Hall pitched the final two frames and after issuing a leadoff walk to Autumn Beasley to start the sixth, retired SU in order.

Robinson (8-10) went the distance for Shenandoah, allowing seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits and five walks.

She also struck out three.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah has an 11:30 a.m. elimination game Saturday morning versus fifth-seeded Bridgewater. The two teams split their regular season doubleheader this year.
