LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team kept itself in tournament contention by splitting an ODAC doubleheader with Randolph College Sunday afternoon.
Shenandoah (15-16, 6-8 ODAC) remains in a three-way tie for sixth place in the league standings with the split over Randolph (13-18-1, 4-12).
The WildCats were 3-2 winners in the opener before SU took game two, 10-3.
GAME ONE
Sierra Beaty had a two-run home run in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough as Randolph scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth and made that lead hold up.
After Beaty's dinger, the Hornets were unable to get the tying run on base.
Megan Scalley (5-5) took the loss after giving up the three runs on four hits and four walks in 4 1/3 innings. She struck out three.
GAME TWO
The Hornets banged out 11 hits in the nightcap, scoring four runs in both the fifth and seventh innings to key the 10-3 victory.
Jenna Barr and Carrie Robinson had RBIs in the fifth with Morgan Henley driving in two and Meghan Stout one in the seventh.
Robinson (8-7) tossed a complete game to help salvage the split. She allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out three.
Stout was 3-for-5 with three RBI and both Henley and Maryann Hollen had two hits each.
Abbi Pannill (5-8) took the loss for the 'Cats. She allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits and five walks in 4 1/3.
UP NEXT
Shenandoah hosts Christendom on Wednesday at 5:30 in a non-league doubleheader.
