WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of Athletics, Dr. DeShon Foxx, has announced two promotions within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Shenandoah alumna Matt McIntosh '23 has been elevated to Director of Athletic Communications, while Kara Phoubandith, the Hornets' Associate Head Women's Lacrosse Coach, will transition into administration as the department's new Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Operations.

McIntosh has served as Assistant Athletic Communications Director for the past two years after beginning his career as a student assistant during his undergraduate studies.

"First off, thank you to Dr. Foxx and the rest of the athletic department for helping me get here in my journey," McIntosh said. "I'm grateful for the opportunity and am excited to assist in the continued growth of our department."

Phoubandith has been a member of the women's lacrosse coaching staff for the past four seasons. During her tenure, the Hornets earned national rankings, advanced to the 2024 NCAA Tournament, and reached the 2025 ODAC Championship game.

In addition to her coaching duties, she was appointed as the department's compliance officer in October 2022, where she managed compliance and eligibility responsibilities.

"I'm grateful to Dr. Foxx for his confidence in me and for the opportunity to continue serving Shenandoah Athletics," Phoubandith said. "I also want to thank Lindsey Lutz and Shenandoah Women's Lacrosse for the incredible mentorship and memories. After four great years, I'm excited to keep supporting our elite coaches, student-athletes, and university community. Go Hornets!"

McIntosh's and Phoubandith's new roles will take effect on August 25, 2025.
