Men's Golf Sits in Third Place After First Day of Gate City Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Through two rounds of the Gate City Invitational, hosted by Greensboro College, the Shenandoah University men's golf team is in third place with a team score of 579 (+3).

The Hornets scored 289 (+1) in the first round and 290 (+2) in the second round at Forest Oaks Country Club, which is a par-72, 7,120-yard course.

Braden Hermansky, the reigning ODAC Golfer of the Week, leads Shenandoah in seventh place. The sophomore started the day with a 68 (-4) in the first round, which saw him make six birdies. During the second round, he recorded a 74 (+2), bringing his total to 142 (-2). He registered a par on every hole of the front nine in his second round.

First-year Elliott Anthony is tied for 13th with a 36-hole score of 144 (E). His consistent day was highlighted by an eagle at the par-five, 525-yard hole four during the first round, the only golfer to achieve an eagle at that hole. He birdied that same hole during the second round, which was preceded by another birdie at hole three.

Conor McCarthy and Mason DuHaime both finished the day with a 147 (+3), shooting two-over par in the first and one-over in the second, giving them a share of 25th place entering the final day. McCarthy's day started with eight straight pars or better, while DuHaime went nine consecutive pars or better on the back nine during round two.

Caden Sherman enters the final round tied for 47th with a 151 (+7). After shooting a 78 (+6) in the first round, he climbed 24 spots on the leaderboard with a 73 (+1) in the second round. He had a better outcome on eight holes in the second round compared to his first round.

Overall, Shenandoah had 118 pars, 26 birdies, and one eagle, while also tying for the fewest bogeys.
