Chelsea Whalen

This bio now serves as a historical reference. Whalen was an employee of Shenandoah Athletics from August 2021 - June 2024.

Former Division I standout Chelsea Whalen came to Shenandoah in August, 2021 to round out Andy Marrocco’s full-time staff as the throws coach.
 
A 2014 Florida State University graduate, the Nova Scotia, Canada native earned second team All-America honors for the Seminoles as she set the program’s shot put record while competing in a pair of NCAA championships.

Whalen had the opportunity to represent Team Canada at numerous international competitions such as the World University Games and Francophone Games. She also competed at the IAAF World Junior Championships, hosted in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada in 2010 and the World Youth Championships in 2009 in Brixen, Italy.
 
She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at FSU as a sport management major and holds several significant certifications by the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association, including T&FA Track & Field Technical Certification and TF&A Program Management Certification.
  
Whalen served as the captain of the women’s track & field team and was a member of SAAC.
 
Following her graduation, she moved on to serve as a graduate assistant at her alma mater as well as an assistant coach at both Southern Arkansas and Colorado Mesa universities.
 
With the Hornets, Whalen serves as the indoor and outdoor track & field programs primary throws coach as well as working with both men’s and women’s cross country. She is involved in all aspects of the six programs including practice and meet management, recruiting, and academic monitoring. In 2022, she was certified as a strength and conditioning specialist through the USTFCCCA. She assists the SU strength and conditioning staff through this certification.
