Softball Head Coach Courtney Allen has announced the addition of Cassetty Howerin to her staff as an assistant coach. Howerin, who is very familiar with the ODAC, is a 2018 graduate of Virginia Wesleyan, where she was a member of the two-time National Champion Marlins.Â
Howerin has a long list of accolades during her time in Virginia Beach. The Dover, Delaware native, was a three-time NFCA First Team All-American, two-time First Team All-Atlantic Regional, a Second Team All-Atlantic Region, four-time First Team All-ODAC, three-time ODAC All-Championship Team, ODAC Championship Most Outstanding Player, Virginia State Player of the Year, and a two-time All-State First Team member.
During Howerin’s time at VWU, she owns the highest individual season batting average of .504, is second in career batting average (.446,) third in hits in a season (69,) second in career hits (242,) seventh in single-season doubles (17,) second in career doubles (55,) third in single-season home runs (12,) first in career home runs (35,) is first in RBI’s in a season (63) and for a career (221,) and tied for fourth in career runs scored (169.)
In addition to a fantastic athletic career, Howerin was also a standout in the classroom earning ODAC All-Academic Honors as well as making the Dean’s List. After graduation, Howerin began working with D-Bat Baseball & Softball Academy as the Director of Softball/Softball Instructor. Howerin worked with young athletes to help improve their softball skills as well as help plan and implement camps and clinics.Â
Howerin begins her coaching responsibilities effective immediately.Â
