A veteran of the Shenandoah University Faculty, Brian Wigley has been the department's Faculty Athletic Representative since 2010.
Since taking on this role, Dr. Wigley has also served three stints as Interim Athletics Director. Wigley was named to the position for a third time in June 2024 and officially took the reins of the department on June 3, 2024. Wigley also served as interim in the summer of 2012 and 2017.
He has been honored by the university with its Wilkins Award for excellence twice, most recently in 2023.
Wigley was named as the university's Faculty Athletics Representative to Athletics in the summer of 2010. AÂ former college student-athlete, Wigley competed for one year at UT-Arlington in tennis prior to transferring to the University of Texas at Austin to complete his undergraduate studies.
In November, 2021, Wigley was nominated for a four-year term to the NCAA Division III Management Council. He began his tenure on the governing body following his formal election at the NCAA Convention in January. Wigley previously served Division III on the Strategic Planning and Finance Committee.
After receiving a B.S. in Kinesiology with a Coaching emphasis in 1988, Wigley moved on to high school coaching and teaching in Texas until deciding to pursue a Master's Degree at Texas A&M.
Wigley received both his Master's and Doctorate degrees at Texas A&M, completing his Ed.D in August 2002.
Wigley came to SU in August 2002 as an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2006.
In the summer of 2013, Wigley's primary teaching program, Sports Management, split off from Kinesiology and moved from the College of Arts & Sciences to the School of Business. He served as the Director of Undergraduate Education within the School of Business from 2014-16.
Wigley and his wife, Ann, are the parents of three adult children: Brett, Hayden (A 2017 SU graduate) and Maddie.
