Richard Hayden joined the field hockey staff in August, 2022.

Hayden grew up in Ireland playing field hockey as his primary sport and represented the Munster province at U-18 and U-21 levels. He continued to play competitive men's hockey as an adult while living in the UK, including representing Oxfordshire. Most recently he played for USA Masters Men's O-50 teams in international tournaments.

As a coach, he directed USA Field Hockey’s Futures Program in northern Virginia for more than a decade and also coached select teams at the National Futures Championship and the Junior Olympics. Hayden is a certified USA Field Hockey Level II Coach and has participated in the Level III program. He also serves as the Coach Representative on the USA Field Hockey Board of Directors, and was first elected to this role in 2016.

In his first year with the program Hayden will focus on game analysis, tactical and technical themes, and individual skills coaching.
