Sam Martin joined the Shenandoah Athletics staff as assistant coach from Cross Country/Track & Field in August 2024.

A 2015 graduate of Christopher Newport University, Sam earned a B.A. in History with a minor in Creative Writing. He holds a USATF Level 1 Coaching Certification, which he obtained in 2021. His coaching career began at DeMatha Catholic High School in Maryland, where he served as an Assistant Cross Country and Track Coach from 2016 to 2018. At DeMatha, he was instrumental in guiding the team to a WCAC Team Championship in Outdoor Track & Field in 2018.

From 2018 to 2024, Sam worked as an Assistant Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Coe College. There, he served as the event coach for Long Jump, Triple Jump, and Pole Vault, while also assisting in the development and implementation of comprehensive training programs for both sprinters and distance runners. His tenure at Coe College was marked by significant achievements, including mentoring athletes to 1 All-Region Honor, 6 All-Conference Honors, and the setting of 9 School Records.

Sam's professional development is highlighted by his active participation in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) and attending multiple coaching clinics and conventions. His personal athletic achievements include being a Conference Champion in both Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field during his collegiate years at Christopher Newport University.

Sam Martin's dedication to the sport, his commitment to athlete development, and his proven track record of success make him a valuable asset to Shenandoah University's Track & Field and Cross Country programs.
