Ferrum Tops SU Women

FERRUM, Va. – The SU women's basketball team was unable to stretch its winning streak to two games Tuesday evening as league leading Ferrum College came back for a 78-67 victory. 

Shenandoah (5-5, 1-2) led host Ferrum 34-31 at the break on the strength of 15 points from freshman Dee Fisher (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) and eight points from backcourt mate Jenny Gray (Sumerduck, Va./Liberty).

Unfortunately for the Hornets, the Lady Panthers (11-2, 3-0) stormed back by shooting 40.0 percent (14-35) in the final 20 minutes and took the 11 point victory. Trailing 42-38 with 15:00 minutes left, FC went on a 14-0 run, starting at the 9:39 mark, to open up a 14-point lead with 4:54 to go and cruised to the win.

Fisher led SU with a career high 25 points while junior Katie Woods (WInchester, Va./Sherando)added 16 points and eight rebounds. Gray also had double figures with 11 points and nine assists.

Tara Toland had 18 points for the Lady Panthers.

The Hornets will be back in action again this weekend with Dixie Conference games at NC Wesleyan on Saturday and Chowan on Sunday. Game time both days is 2:00.
