WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer program posted its fourth shutout of the season Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 USA South triumph over visiting Peace College.

Shenandoah improved to 6-5 on the season and 2-3 in the conference, while the Pride fell to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in their first season in the league.

After a scoreless first half that featured outstanding defensive play from both teams, Shenandoah got the break it needed in the 59th minute. Freshman Leanne Gibson (Woodbury, N.J./West Deptford) corralled the ball in her offensive zone and weaved through three Pride defenders on her way to rifling a goal from five yards out.

Similarly, classmate Lauren Carpinello (Spring Lake Heights, N.J./ Manasquah) exploited a seam in the Peace defense as she streaked in from the midfield to drill home the Hornets' second and final goal of the day in the 75th minute.

SU goaltender Megan Ross (Harrisburg, Penn./HACC) needed to make just three saves to hold the Pride without a score and record her fourth shutout of the season. Peace had two women: freshmen Marlowe Ivey (Goldsboro, N.C.) and Anne Mason (Goldsboro, N.C.) make three saves and allow a single goal in the losing effort.
