FREDERICK, Md. - The SU women's field hockey team completed in the best way possible - the squad registered the program's first ever win with a 4-0 victory over host Hood College.
Shenandoah (1-3) achieved this first ever triumph by dominating the contest. SU outshot the Blazers (1-9) 40-2 for the contest and held a 10-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Junior Joyce Cespedes (Virginia Beach, Va./Tallwood) opened the scoring for Shenandoah with an unassisted goal 4:50 into the match and then closed the half with a second goal with just under 12 minutes remaining.
Freshman Carly Smith (Reedsville, Va./Northumberland), who scored the Hornets first ever home goal two weeks ago in a loss to Roanoke, tallied in the 18th minute to split to Cespedes' two goals.
Smith also scored the only goal of the second half when she converted a Cespedes feed midway through the period. Cespedes also assisted her first goal.
