WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University gave it an outstanding effort, but came up short in a 3-0 (21-30, 24-30, 21-30) USA South loss to Averett University Sunday afternoon.
Shenandoah dropped to 9-18 for the season and fell to .500 in USA South play at 6-6 following the game, while Averett improved to 25-7 overall and a perfect 12-0 in the league with the senior day win.
Senior Lesley Beard (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Finch) had a strong performance on Senior Day with a team high 26 assists and also was second on the team with seven digs.
Beard's classmates Tara Russell (Williamsport, Md./Hagerstown CC) and Lori Serrano (Jacksonville, Fla./U. of North Florida) also made the most of their Senior Day celebration with a team high 10 kills and three service aces, respectively.
Hannah Williams (Salem, Va./Glenvar) added seven kills and Serrano five to help keep SU in the match.
