WINCHESTER, Va. - The SU volleyball team likely clinched the fourth seed at next week's USA South Conference volleyball tournament with a 3-2 (30-19, 26-30, 20-30, 30-23, 15-11) victory over NC Wesleyan Friday night.
After dominating game one, Shenandoah (10-19, 7-7) found itself behind 2-1 as the Lady Bishops (10-19, 4-10) roared back for victories in games two and three.Â
Fortunately for the home fans, SU refused to fold and came back to earn its third victory in the last four outings and evening its conference record at 7-7 in the process.
With two matches left in the regular season and at least one in next week's tournament, the Hornets have an outside shot at getting Head Coach Sarah Pelster her 400th career victory. Pelster needs three to achieve that goal and her club faces last place Chowan and second place Greensboro tomorrow afternoon at Greensboro. The Hornets have never beaten the Pride since joining the league in 1993.
Sophomore Jenny Gray (Sumerduck, Va./Liberty) led her club in the win with a match high 24 kills while senior Tara Russell (Hagerstown, Md./HCC) added 14 and Lori Serrano (Jacksonville, Fla./North Florida) and Hannah Williams (Salem, Va./Glenvar) 13 each.
Darci Bertsch had 16 kills and 21 digs for NCWC.
