FERRUM, Va. - Shenandoah University got its second USA South victory Saturday afternoon the same way it achieved the first one - with an overtime goal.
SU (3-3-2, 2-1 USA South) got a goal from senior Manuel Barcia (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) in the 93rd minute to propel the Hornets to a 1-0 victory over host Ferrum College.
Shenandoah dominated the game; they outshot the Panthers (3-8, 0-3) 21-12, including 12-4 in the second half, but could not find the net until Barcia tallied his first goal of the season on a rocket from 25 yards out.
The overtime win mirrors the victory that the Hornets had on September 10 against Chowan. In that first ever USA South game, SU controlled the action for the majority of the game but was forced into the extra session. Fortunately for Shenandoah, Barcia got the game winner three minutes into sudden death.
Sophomore Kyle Hodges (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) made five saves in earning his second career shutout (first of the season).
