Volleyball Gets Road Split

RALEIGH, N.C. - The SU women's volleyball team made up two of the three matches it lost two weeks ago to Hurricane Isabel with a split against USA South opponents Peace College and Averett University Sunday afternoon.

Shenandoah (6-14, 3-4) swept Peace 3-0 (30-17, 30-28, 31-29) before losing to Averett 3-0 (30-17, 30-15, 30-13).

Sophomore Jenny Gray (Sumerduck, Va./Liberty) had a combined 22 kills in the two matches (11 in each) and also added 10 total digs. Hannah Williams (Salem, Va./Glenvar) also played well in the Peace match with 17 kills, seven digs and three service aces.

Senior Leslie Beard (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) keyed the PC victory with a match high 36 assists. She added 14 digs to anchor the back row as well.

Shenandoah continues USA South play Tuesday night at 7:00 when Ferrum College makes its annual trek to Winchester.
