NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The men's soccer program could not capitalize on its highest ever ranking in the conference tournament as second seeded Shenandoah fell, 3-0, to third seeded Greensboro in the opening match of the USA South Conference men's soccer tournament.
The Hornets (8-7-2) yielded a pair of first half goals to Samuel Hale and Aaron Holcomb of the Pride (13-3-3) in the 10th and 22nd minutes, respectively, as Greensboro dictated the pace of the match from start to finish.
Following the intermission, Holcomb tacked on his second tally of the match in the 84th minute to stave off any hopes of a Hornets comeback.
Sophomore goaltender Chris Peter (Chantilly, Va./NVCC) made only one save in the loss, but the Shenandoah offense was also well marked by the Greensboro squad as GC outshot the Hornets, 11-4.
