WINCHESTER, Va. - The Methodist College women's basketball team overcame an excellent first half shooting performance by host Shenandoah on its way to a 66-54 Dixie Conference victory Saturday afternoon.

Methodist (9-7, 3-3) saw host SU (7-7, 2-4) shoot 10 for 17 (58.8 percent) from the field in the first half but forced 24 Hornets turnovers to fuel a 31-22 halftime lead.

The 24 first half turnovers are a first half high this season for Coach Kathy Orsini's club, and it allowed the Lady Monarchs to dodge the affects of a 13 for 33 (39.4 percent) performance of their own.

After Methodist scored the opening four points of the second half, Shenandoah found itself down by double digits most of the rest of the way.

A 4-0 run from the 10:22 to the 10:06 marks cut the gap to just seven, but MC pulled away with a 5-0 run of it own in the next 1:05.

Sophomore Jenny Gray (Sumerduck, Va./Liberty) finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Dee Fisher (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) added 11. Freshman Tynecia Nelms (Bedford, Va./Staunton River) had her first career double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

LaTasha Watlington and Jennifer Dollyhigh had 21 and 18, respectively, for Methodist.
