WINCHESTER, Va. - Ferrum College used a 12-0 run to start Tuesday evening Dixie Conference contest against host Shenandoah to help them cruise to a 81-61 victory.

SU (10-9, 4-6) came into the contest looking to upset the league leading Lady Panthers, but saw FC (17-4, 9-1) seize control with the opening spurt.

Shenandoah missed its first six shots and committed four turnovers in this 4:20 opening span, and as a result found itself down by a double digit margin for virtually the rest of the opening half. Coach Kathy Orsini's club was able to get to within seven at 16-9 just before the 11 minute mark, but the Lady Panthers scored the next eight points to return the lead to the mid-teens.

Unfortunately, the second half was more of the same as FC answered every Shenandoah run with one of its own. The Hornets were unable to get closer than eight points down and could only watch as Ferrum extended the advantage to as many as 24 in the waning moments.

Junior Katie Woods (Winchester, Va./Sherando) had 16 points and 12 rebounds for SU while freshman Dee Fisher (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) added 14 points and eight boards.

Ferrum College had four players in double figures; Tara Toland led with a game high 24.
