GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Greensboro College men used three second half goals to secure a sweep of the USA South Conference soccer doubleheader over visiting Shenandoah Sunday afternoon; GC took the nightcap 4-0.
Greensboro (7-1-1, 2-0-1), ranked No. 2 in the South, scored the initial goal of the game in the 19th minute on a Galen Reid conversion from Matt Mulvena.
After the two teams played the remaining 26 minutes of the first half evenly, the Pride struck for three goals in a nine-minute span early in the second.
Ben Maxwell netted himself a natural hat trick with goals in the 58th, 64th and 67th minutes and in the process sealed the victory for his side.
Greensboro outshot Shenandoah (2-3-2, 1-1) 22-8, including 13-1 in the first half.
SU keepers Alex Lane (Chesterfield, Va./Meadowbrook) and Kyle Hodges (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) combined to make eight saves.
