CNU Takes Volleyball in Four

WINCHESTER, Va. - Christopher Newport University fought off the effects of a weak hitting night to defeat host Shenandoah 3-1 (30-25, 30-20, 21-30, 30-20) Wednesday evening in USA South Conference volleyball action.

CNU (6-7, 3-1) hit just .103 (47 kills and 32 errors in 145 attempts)but was able to control the match by opening up big leads in each of the first two games.

Shenandoah (5-13, 2-3) came back to win game three by getting nine kills against two errors in 36 attempts, but the Lady Captains clinched the match by jumping out to 20-10 lead.

Junior Hannah Williams (Salem, Va./Glenvar) had 13 kills while sophomore Jenny Gray (Sumerduck, Va./Liberty) added 10. These two were also the story defensively with 17 and 21 digs, respectively.

Jenna Williams had 15 kills and Amber Bradshaw 12 for CNU.

SU is back in action this weekend with a pair of USA South Conference matches on Saturday afternoon against Peace and Averett.
