CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Shenandoah University field hockey team dropped the first-ever varsity game in school history, 2-1, in overtime at Wilson (Penn.) College Friday night.

After falling behind the Phoenix (1-1), 1-0, early in the second half, freshman Carly Smith made history by netting the first ever goal in SU history in the 56th minute.

Shenandoah (0-1) battled to a 1-1 stalemate with the Phoenix through regulation. The Hornets, however, could not give Head Coach Lois Bowers her first field hockey triumph at SU as sophomore Alicia Smith (Palmyra, Penn.) drove home a penalty stroke in the final minute of the extra frame giving Wilson the match.

Shenandoah returns to action Tuesday afternoon at Bridgewater.
