SALEM, Va. - The SU volleyball team played two close matches, but came out on the short side of both in day two of the Roanoke College Tournament in Salem.
Shenandoah (1-5) fell 3-1 (31-29, 28-30, 30-21, 30-28) to Hollins in the opening match of the day and then lost a five-game match 3-2 to NC Wesleyan (30-23, 30-25, 21-30, 26-30, 11-15) to complete tournament play.
Sophomore Jenny Gray (Sumerduck, Va./Liberty) had a combined 31 kills and 49 digs in the two matches while junior Hannah Williams (Salem, Va./Glenvar) had 28 kills and a team high 52 digs. Williams was particularly strong in the NC Wesleyan match; she had 15 kills, five service aces and a career high 30 digs.
Senior Lesley Beard (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) had 68 total assists (44 vs Wesleyan) to go along with 33 digs.
