STAUNTON, Va. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team ran its season long winning streak to five games Tuesday night with a 3-1 victory at Mary Baldwin College.
Shenandoah (13-9) lost game one, 30-23, but came back to sweep the Squirrels (9-14) in the final three games 30-24, 33-31, 30-25. The Hornets have now surpassed last season's win total with at least 14 matches left in the 2004 campaign. The school record for victories is 15, set in 1998.
Freshmen Michelle Chandler (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) and Jennifer Thompson (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) once again led SU in the victory. Chandler had a team high 17 kills to go along with 16 assists and 10 digs while Thompson contributed 11 kills, 10 assists and nine digs.
Chandler was also strong from the service line. She had three of the Hornets eight service aces.
Alex Hamlin (Berryville, Va./Clarke County) led the defense with 20 digs.
