WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University set a new school record for fastest goal on its way to a 7-0 USA South men's soccer victory over visiting Ferrum College Saturday afternoon.
Shenandoah (4-4-1 overall, 1-1 USA South) got a Chad Blizzard (Owasso, Okla./Owasso) goal off of a Jared Fleming (Alvin, Tex./Alvin) assist just 42 seconds in and never looked back against the Panthers (0-9, 0-2).
Blizzard made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal 17 minutes later, and the Hornets took a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.
Goals in the 50th, 55th, 64th and 87th minutes followed as the Shenandoah got its biggest win over Ferrum since SU joined the USA South in 1993.
Six different players scored goals for coach Rob Kulton's club, including senior Mark Hasson (Herndon, Va./Oakton) in the 87th minute.
Junior keeper Kyle Hodges (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) had to make just one save in earning his second shutout of the season.
